Defending Earth, People and Climate Against Fossil Fuels: Rights of Nature Tribunal in Climate Week NYC

On September 23, 2025, the International Rights of Nature Tribunal will convene in New York during Climate Week for the event: “Defending Earth, People and Climate Against Fossil Fuels.”

The Tribunal will deliver its judgment on the Mountain Valley Pipeline case, originally heard during the 6th International Tribunal on “The End of the Fossil Fuel Era.” It will also share findings from the 12th Local Tribunal in North Carolina. New cases will be presented on fracking in Vaca Muerta and monoculture forestry in Corrientes, Argentina, together with testimony on the Rights of the Amazon.

By applying the framework of the Rights of Nature, the Tribunal will expose the destructive impacts of fossil fuel expansion and industrial monocultures while affirming pathways toward justice, resilience, and systemic transformation.
