Maial Paiakan Kaiapó is a young Kayapó-Mẽbêngôkre leader, woman and activist. Daughter of Paulinho Paiakan, legendary Kayapó indigenous leader who became known for fighting for the inclusion of indigenous rights in the 1988 Federal Constitution and for the demarcation of the Kayapó Indigenous Land. Maial holds a law degree, being the first Mẽbêngôkre woman to obtain a degree. Professionally, she has worked in the defense of indigenous peoples’ rights at FUNAI, SESAI and as an advisor to Congresswoman Joenia Wapichana. Today she is a Master’s student in Law at the Federal University of Pará.
