Marie van der Loos
JUDGE
ENG:
serves as the Organizer for the International Rights of Nature Tribunal Secretariat. After completing her studies in law and political science in Brussels, she pursued a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Law at the University of Eastern Finland. In her quest to reconnect with her Mexican roots, she spent her final semester at the Universidad de Guadalajara, later remaining in Latin America to assist the 8th local Tribunal on the Tren Maya case and complete her internship with the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature in Ecuador. During her time there, she had the unique opportunity to support the citizen-led consultation advocating for an end to extraction activities in Ecuador’s Yasuní region on which she wrote her final Master thesis.
Marie extended her stay in Latin America to volunteer with local and Indigenous communities fighting for land rights and autonomy, and collaborated with the Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center in Chiapas, Mexico.
As a singer, activist, yoga and salsa enthusiast, traveler, and lifelong nature lover, Marie is now based in a Brussels-located eco community, where she passionately and joyfully fulfills her role as Tribunal Organizer for GARN.
