Durante la octava audiencia local del Tribunal Internacional de los Derechos de la Naturaleza, celebrada en la ciudad de Valladolid, Yucatán, México, del 9 al 12 de marzo de 2023, se evaluó la implementación del controvertido proyecto de transporte ferroviario conocido como “Tren Maya”. Este megaproyecto plantea un plan de reordenamiento territorial en la península de Yucatán, que amenaza con la destrucción y degradación ecológica de los ecosistemas, así como el bienestar de los pueblos maya y la sustentabilidad de sus culturas y territorios ancestrales.

✍🏼 Este veredicto ha sido firmado por una lista de jueces de Tribunales previos y jueces honorarios destacados, como el actor y activista mexicano Gael García Bernal, el economista mexicano Enrique Leff, el autor y activista ambiental nigeriano Nnimmo Bassey, el jurista mexicano José Ramon Cossio, el economista ecuatoriano Alberto Acosta, la abogada y profesora mexicana Ana Laura Magaloni, entre otros.
El veredicto del Tribunal fue entregado a la sociedad civil y de forma física y firmado a autoridades mexicanas como el Presidente de la República, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

During the eighth local hearing of the International Rights of Nature Tribunal, held in the city of Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico, March 9-12, 2023, the implementation of the controversial rail transportation project known as “Tren Maya” was evaluated. This megaproject proposes a territorial reordering plan in the Yucatan peninsula, which threatens the destruction and ecological degradation of ecosystems, as well as the well-being of the Mayan peoples and the sustainability of their cultures and ancestral territories.

✍🏼 This verdict has been signed by a list of judges from previous Tribunals and prominent honorary judges, such as Mexican actor and activist Gael García Bernal, Mexican economist Enrique Leff, Nigerian author and environmental activist Nnimmo Bassey, Mexican jurist José Ramon Cossio, Ecuadorian economist Alberto Acosta, Mexican lawyer, and professor Ana Laura Magaloni, among others.
The verdict of the Tribunal was delivered to civil society and physically signed and delivered to Mexican authorities such as the President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
